Three days covers Komodo National Park by private boat. Five adds the first inland stage to Ruteng. Seven gives you a real overland chapter — Wae Rebo or the road to Kelimutu. Ten to fourteen covers the whole island west to east.

April to October is calmest on the Flores Sea and driest on the roads. April–June and September–November combine that with quieter anchorages. July and August are superb but busiest, with the best boats booked months ahead.

Yes — it is our signature format. Typically two to four nights sailing through Komodo National Park followed by three to five days on the Trans-Flores Highway with a private driver-guide. One operator plans both halves, so the handover is seamless.

A 90-minute flight from Denpasar to Labuan Bajo is the default, at USD 50–150 one way. The alternative is a four-day sailing from Lombok via Moyo, Satonda and Komodo, with cabins at USD 425–770 per person.

Sail first. You arrive rested, the park is at its best in the early mornings, and the overland stages then slow the trip down. Reversed, the sea ends up feeling like an afterthought.

A scheduled departure puts you on a fixed date with 8–22 other travellers on a set loop. A private charter is your party only, any date, any route, with the chef cooking around your day. Both are ours; the difference is control.

Count guests per metre of hull. A luxury phinisi carries 8–20 guests on 30–40 metres; a standard one advertises 25 or more berths on the same length by subdividing cabins. Then check whether every cabin is ensuite and air-conditioned, and whether there is a chef or a deckhand cooking.

The vessel, full crew, a dedicated chef, all meals, snorkelling equipment, kayaks or paddleboards where fitted, tender transfers for every landing, fuel and harbour fees. Park tickets and dive packages are quoted separately and itemised.

Not at all. Snorkelling at Manta Point puts you above the same animals, and scheduled 3D2N departures from USD 300 per person cover mantas, dragons and Pink Beach with no certification. For diving, site choice depends on your level and the current.

Cabin sailings start at USD 300 per person for 3D2N. Private whole-boat charter runs USD 1,800–30,000 per night across the fleet. Overland is built from vehicles at IDR 1.500.000 per day plus lodges. Every quote itemises these rather than rolling them into one number.

IDR 650.000 per person on a dated ticket, valid only for the day issued. It is fixed by the government and identical for every operator. We arrange it in advance and list it as its own line.

International and domestic flights, travel insurance, alcohol on board, spa treatments ashore and personal spending. There are no booking fees and nothing is added at checkout — the figure you approve is the figure you pay.

Yes, and the crossover surprises people. A whole-boat rate split among eight guests often lands close to a shared-cabin price per head — at which point you have the boat, the schedule and the chef to yourselves for roughly the same money.

Light and breathable for the boat, one modest set with shoulders and knees covered for villages, and genuinely warm layers if Kelimutu or Wae Rebo are on your route — both are cold before dawn. A soft bag, not a hard case, and reef-safe sunscreen bought before you fly.

The Trans-Flores Highway is sealed for nearly all of its length, and narrow, steep and constantly winding for nearly all of it too. Distances look small and take about twice as long as they should. A private vehicle with a driver who knows the stages is worth a great deal here.

Yes. Card acceptance thins fast east of Labuan Bajo. Village donations, small warungs and park gates are all cash. ATMs exist in Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende and Maumere but are not reliable, so draw before heading east.

Labuan Bajo has a hospital and an airport fifteen minutes apart. East of it, and out in the park, you are hours from either. That is worth knowing when you choose travel insurance, which we strongly recommend with medical and evacuation cover.
