3 Days: Komodo Essentials
Three days and two nights aboard is the shortest plan that does Komodo National Park justice. It covers the park’s headline sites without a single rushed morning.
- Day 1 — Board at the Labuan Bajo pier, sail to Kelor Island for the first snorkel, then anchor off Kalong Island to watch thousands of flying foxes stream out at dusk.

Why two nights aboard rather than day trips? Because the speedboat fleet does this same circuit in twelve loud hours, and everything worth seeing happens before it arrives or after it leaves. Sleeping inside the park means Padar’s ridgeline before the first engines, Pink Beach after the last, and a night sky over the anchorage that no hotel in town can offer.
4 Days: Komodo + Labuan Bajo
The four-day plan keeps the three sea days intact and adds a buffer day around town. It is the smallest change that makes the whole trip feel unhurried.
Use Day 4 on land — Batu Cermin cave in the morning, a long lunch above the harbour, sunset from the hills west of town — or turn it into a day of Komodo diving at Batu Bolong or Castle Rock if you are certified. 5 Days: Sea + Overland Taster
Five days is the first plan that shows you Flores itself, not only its national park. Three days at sea, two overland into the Manggarai highlands — and the island starts to explain why it deserves a full week.
Days 1–3 follow the Komodo block above, aboard a Flores liveaboard from the fleet. On Day 4 your driver-guide takes the Trans-Flores highway east to Ruteng: the spider-web rice fields of Cancar spread below the road, highland coffee is roasted a few villages from where it grew, and the air at 1,100 metres is a different country from the coast. Overnight in Ruteng, then return west on Day 5 with stops the tour buses skip. 7 Days: The Grand Flores
Seven days is the full argument for Flores: the sea block plus a genuine overland journey, not a taster. It is the plan we recommend most often to guests flying in from Europe or North America.
- Days 1–3 — The Komodo sea block: Padar, dragons, Pink Beach, Manta Point.
- Day 4 — East to Ruteng through the Cancar rice fields; highland overnight.
- Day 5 — Drive to the Denge trailhead and trek to Wae Rebo, the village above the clouds; overnight in a drum house or the comfort basecamp.
- Day 6 — Descend with the morning mist, then back toward the coast at your own pace.
- Day 7 — Departure day, with a harbour breakfast instead of a scramble.
There are two ways to run the land half. West-in, west-out keeps Labuan Bajo as your single gateway and centres the week on the Wae Rebo overnight. Or convert it into a one-way crossing on the Labuan Bajo to Maumere route, ending with sunrise over Kelimutu‘s three-coloured crater lakes and a flight out of Ende or Maumere — the closest thing to a complete Flores overland itinerary that fits inside one week. 10–14 Days: The Full Bali–Lombok–Flores Arc
With ten days or more, Flores becomes the eastern half of a larger arc that begins in Bali. It is the plan honeymooners and sabbatical travellers ask for by name.
The classic shape: three or four days in Bali, then travel Bali to Flores the scenic way — a four-day Lombok to Flores boat trip through Moyo, Satonda and the western edge of Komodo National Park — before a five-to-seven-day Flores block from the plans above. You arrive by sea, already unwound, and the park becomes a chapter rather than a checklist. Run the arc eastbound. Sailing with the prevailing dry-season conditions is more comfortable, and finishing in Flores means no backtracking: you end the trip at the quiet edge of the map rather than fighting your way home through it. Labuan Bajo’s airport connects onward through Bali and Jakarta, so the last morning is a harbour breakfast and a 90-minute flight, not a repeat of the crossing.
