In short

Seven days is the shortest trip that covers Komodo National Park and a real overland journey — sailing first, then the Trans-Flores Highway to the crater lakes.

  • Three sea days, four land days
  • Wae Rebo and Kelimutu both reachable
  • Ends at Ende — a one-way crossing, no backtracking

Day by day

Komodo, then east across the island

One direction only. You fly into Labuan Bajo and out of Ende, so no day is spent driving back over ground you have already seen.

  1. 01

Day 1 · Board and sail

Boarding mid-morning. Kelor Island, dragon trekking on Rinca with a ranger, and sunset at anchor as the flying foxes leave Kalong.

  2. 02

Day 2 · Padar and Pink Beach

The Padar ridge at first light, Pink Beach after the day boats have gone, and the mantas at Karang Makassar.

  3. 03

Day 3 · Ashore at noon

Breakfast on the Taka Makassar sandbar, then disembark in Labuan Bajo by early afternoon. Drive up to Ruteng, past the Cancar rice fields.

  4. 04

    Day 4 · Wae Rebo

The drive to the Denge trailhead and the 2.5–3 hour forest trek up to the seven cone-roofed houses at 1,100 m. Night in a mbaru niang, above the cloud.

  5. 05

Day 5 · Down and east to Bajawa

Back down the trail in the morning, then the ridge road to Bajawa. An afternoon at Bena, the megalithic Ngada village below the volcano.

  6. 06

    Day 6 · To Moni

Down to the coast past the blue-pebble beach at Penggajawa, through Ende, and up to Moni at the foot of Kelimutu.

  7. 07

Day 7 · Kelimutu, then Ende

A pre-dawn drive and the short walk to the viewpoint above the three lakes. Breakfast after, then down to Ende for the flight out.

The week people come back and recommend

Seven days is where the trip stops being a Komodo holiday with a drive attached and becomes a crossing of an island that happens to start at a national park.

The shape is deliberate: the sea is front-loaded while you have energy, and each land day is shorter and slower than the one before it. By Moni you are moving at the island's pace rather than your own.

The one trade is Riung. The north-coast marine park sits on day three of the six-day overland route; fitting it in here would cost you Wae Rebo. Ten days takes both.
