Fly, unless the crossing is the point

The 90-minute hop from Denpasar is the default for good reason: Komodo Airport is fifteen minutes from the harbour, so a morning flight has you on a boat by lunch.

Book morning departures in high season — afternoon build-up over the mountains delays later rotations, and boats sailing the same day do not wait.

Sit on the left flying east. On a clear day the window frames Rinjani, the Sumbawa coast and finally the islands of Komodo on approach.

Or make the journey the trip

Sailing the arc from Lombok takes four days and three nights, and arrives in Labuan Bajo by sea — which is a different thing from landing at an airport and being driven to a marina.

The route runs Kenawa, Saleh Bay for the dawn whale sharks, Satonda's crater lake, then Komodo National Park on day three: Manta Point, Pink Beach, Komodo Village and the Padar ridge at sunset.

Deluxe cabins run USD 425–770 per person by category. A private phinisi charter does the same route on your own dates, quoted per boat.
